Multi-age Setting

The ages of our students do not limit their academic potential. Our multi-age environment allows for diverse perspectives and creates a family feeling in our community.

Junior/Senior Flexible Study Program

For our juniors and seniors, we offer flexibility in their academic program, allowing access to courses at the community college as well as apprenticeships, field studies, foreign study and independent scholarship.

Senior Seminars

Junior and Senior students may take advantage of small group instruction at a depth that goes beyond traditional high school learning. Through discussion, students and staff design seminars that explore topics of academic interest or intellectual challenge. In addition, students may participate in long-term experiential learning projects through the seminar process.

Honors Thesis/Workshop

We want our students to soar. Workshops offer students individualized support to develop skills. All students are also invited to design and complete a year-long self-directed research project that propels them into compelling intellectual territory.

Capstone Experience

Capstone is a unique part of a student’s final year at Jefferson Community School. An extended part of JCS’ flexible study program, Capstone is an opportunity for students to expand their education and build a bridge to their lives beyond JCS. A Capstone experience focuses on a student’s individual life path beyond Jefferson Community School. Students have the opportunity to make an in-depth academic exploration of a specific subject matter through internships, service projects, or an attempt to create positive change in their community.
